Regular watch servicing is essential to keep your timepiece running smoothly and accurately whilst protecting your investment. Over time, watches are subject to wear and tear and exposure to different environmental factors, which can cause potential damage to the internal mechanisms of your timepiece, which will affect its performance over time. Therefore, it is essential to have your watch serviced to prevent any issues arising due to ageing and wear.

STEP 1

Providing a quote

To provide an accurate quote, our watchmakers will need to disassemble your watch, including the case, crystal, movement, hands, and dial, where each component of your timepiece will be inspected, looking out for any signs of wear or damage. Once completed, we can provide you with an accurate quote and detailed report of the repairs required during your watch's service and account for any additional replacement parts that may be required.

STEP 2

Cleaning

Once a diagnosis has been carried out and you have agreed for us to proceed with your watch service, the components of your watch are placed into a specialised ultrasonic cleaner with a gentle cleaning solution.

The ultrasonic cleaner generates high-frequency sound waves that cause the cleaning solution to vibrate rapidly—creating millions of tiny bubbles that implode upon contact with the watch components, gently lifting dirt and grime away from the surface.

STEP 3

Replacing any worn or damaged parts

Over time, various watch components can wear out or become damaged, such as the mainspring, balance wheel, or crown.

When replacing any parts of your watch, we will only use genuine replacement parts. Why is this important? Because imitation parts are often made of inferior quality materials or have defects in the manufacturing process that make them difficult to fit correctly and can lead to further problems.

STEP 4

Lubrication

After the different parts of your watch have been ultrasonically cleaned and dried, our watchmakers will carefully apply specialised oils to each component using precise tools and techniques. The type and amount of oil used will depend on the specific requirements of each element and the manufacturer's recommendations.

STEP 5

Reassembly

After each component has been cleaned and re-lubricated, including any replacement parts, it's time to put everything back together. Our watchmakers will carefully align the gears, springs, and other components to ensure that the watch functions correctly. In addition to assembling the movement, our watchmaker will reattach any external parts, such as the dial, hands, and crown.

STEP 6

Pressure testing

If required, your timepiece will undergo a pressure test to determine its water resistance capabilities. During this process, your watch is placed inside a specialised pressure chamber and subjected to simulated underwater conditions. Once your timepiece has passed the manufacturer-rated depth rating, we will provide a confirmation receipt upon collection.

STEP 7

Watch polishing

As an additional service, we can also polish your watch back to showroom standards. During this process, any chips or scratches will be polished out. If that is not possible, using a laser welder, a dent can be infilled with the appropriate metal type before being buffed and re-polished.

STEP 8

Quality control

After the reassembly and polishing process, we perform various quality control tests to check your watch's timekeeping accuracy, shock resistance and power reserve to ensure that your timepiece functions accurately and can withstand normal wear and tear.

After ensuring everything is in proper working order, our customer service team will contact you to make arrangements for collecting or shipping your timepiece.

What our clients say about us

FAQ’s

  • A watch is a delicate instrument that requires regular maintenance to ensure it keeps accurate time and remains in prime condition. There are several telltale signs that your timepiece may need a service, including:

    • Your watch is running too fast or too slow

    • The second-hand skips several seconds

    • Condensation under the watch glass

    • You can hear a rattling noise in the case

    • The hands or dial seem loose

    • Odour coming from your watch

If you're facing any of these issues, we recommend booking your timepiece for a full service with our repair centre. Ignoring any of these issues could result in further damage.

  • We recommend having your watch serviced every 2-3 years to keep your timepiece in optimum working conditions.

  • As an independent repair centre, we can provide a complete watch service within 3 - 4 weeks.

More complex overhauls, such as the restoration of a watch, can take longer.

  • The cost of servicing a watch can vary depending on your timepiece's brand, model and condition.

At AMJ, our all-encompassing watch service starts from just £219.95. However, if your watch requires movement repairs or replacement parts, these costs will be additional.

Although we can provide an estimate for a detailed quote for the necessary repairs, service, and replacement parts (if any), our technicians will need to inspect your timepiece. You are more than welcome to pop by our repair centre, or why not send us your watch in the post?
