What is your typical turnaround time for a watch service?

As an independent repair centre, we typically complete a full watch service within 3 to 4 weeks.

For more complex work—such as full restorations or intricate overhauls—additional time may be required, depending on the condition of the watch and the availability of parts.

FAQ's: Our Watch Battery Replacement Service

What types of watches do you replace batteries for?

We replace batteries in all quartz-powered watches, including digital, analogue, chronograph, fashion, and luxury timepieces. Whether it’s a standard wristwatch or a high-end Swiss model, we’ve got you covered.

Do you offer battery replacements for high-end or luxury brands?

Yes. We specialise in servicing luxury brands such as TAG Heuer, OMEGA, Breitling, Longines, Cartier, and many others. We take extra care to preserve the integrity of your watch during the battery replacement process.

Do you perform pressure testing after a battery replacement?

Absolutely. If your watch is designed to be water-resistant, we will pressure test it after replacing the battery to verify that the seals are intact and the case remains water-tight.

What if my watch fails the pressure test?

If your watch fails the pressure test, it could be due to wear or damage to components such as the case, seals, pushers, or crystal. In this case, our watchmakers will carry out a detailed inspection to identify the cause and advise you on the necessary repairs to restore your watch’s water resistance capabilities.

How long does a battery replacement take?

Our battery replacement, resealing, and pressure testing services are typically completed while you wait or within the hour, depending on current demand.

To ensure a smooth and timely visit, we recommend calling or emailing us in advance to reserve a time slot.

What kind of batteries do you use?

We use high-quality, Swiss-made batteries, such as Renata, to ensure long-lasting performance and reliability. We never use low-grade or unbranded cells.

How long will the new battery last?

Quartz watch batteries typically need replacing every 1 to 5 years, depending on the watch's power consumption.

Watches with additional features—such as chronographs, date displays, moon-phase indicators, or GMT functions—tend to draw more power and will usually require more frequent battery replacements than simpler, time-only models.

How will I know when to change my watch Battery?

Watch batteries often show signs before failing. Look out for:

  • Watch running slowly or stopping

  • Second-hand jumping in 2-second intervals (very common in quartz watches)

  • Dim or fading digital display

  • Corrosion or leakage in the battery compartment

If you notice any of these, it’s time to replace the battery to avoid further damage.

When to Replace Your Watch Battery (and How to Avoid Damage)

Do I need to book an appointment for a battery replacement?

Appointments aren't always necessary, but we recommend contacting us first — especially for luxury watches or if you require pressure testing.

Walk-ins are welcome at our watch repair shop during opening hours.

Can a dead battery damage my watch?

Yes — if left inside too long, a dead battery can leak and damage the movement. We recommend replacing the battery as soon as your watch stops, to avoid unnecessary repairs.

FAQ's: Our Watch Glass Replacement

What are the different types of watch crystals?

There are three main types of watch glass (also called crystals) used in modern timepieces:

  • Acrylic: Lightweight and shatter-resistant, but prone to scratches.

  • Mineral Glass: More scratch-resistant than acrylic but can crack under impact.

  • Sapphire Crystal: Extremely hard and scratch-resistant, commonly used in luxury watches, but more expensive.

Each option has its advantages depending on the type of watch, your lifestyle, and your budget.

For more information on the pros and cons of each type of crystal, check out our guide to the different watch glass types.

How much does our watch glass replacement cost?

The cost of replacing your watch glass depends on factors like the type of crystal, size and shape, brand/model, and whether resealing and pressure testing are required.

  • Acrylic or Mineral Glass: from £30–£50

  • Sapphire Crystal: up to £150, depending on complexity and availability

  • Vintage or discontinued models: May require custom-cut glass, which can increase cost and turnaround time.

Before starting any watch glass replacement, we’ll always provide a no-obligation quote for your approval.

How long does it take to replace my watch glass?

In many cases, we can replace your watch glass while you wait, especially if the glass is a common type we have in stock.

However, if your watch requires a custom-cut or vintage crystal, turnaround may extend to several days depending on parts availability and complexity.

We recommend contacting us in advance with your watch brand and model so we can confirm availability and give you an accurate time estimate.

Will my watch need to be pressure tested after the glass is replaced?

Yes — if your watch is water-resistant, a pressure test is essential after replacing the glass. This ensures the case is properly sealed to meet the manufacturer's specifications and maintain its water resistance.

Our pressure test will also check for issues with the case back, crown, pushers, seals, and gaskets. If any weaknesses are found, our watchmakers will advise on necessary repairs.

Can you replace glass on vintage or discontinued watches?

Yes, we specialise in vintage and discontinued watch models. If the original crystal is no longer manufactured, we can often custom-cut a new one to match the original size and shape.

Please note: Bespoke crystals require additional time to produce and are not eligible for while-you-wait service.

Do you replace domed, curved, or shaped watch glasses?

Yes, we replace a wide range of watch crystals, including domed, curved, and uniquely shaped glass. These styles are often found in vintage or high-end timepieces and may require custom fitting depending on the watch model.

FAQ's: Our Watch Polishing Service

Can polishing remove deep scratches or dents?

Polishing is most effective on light to moderate surface scratches. Deeper gouges or dents may require more advanced treatment.

At AMJ Watch Services, we use laser welding to fill deep scratches or dings with the appropriate matching metal (e.g. stainless steel or gold), then carefully refinish the area to restore its original contours without removing excessive material.

How often should I have my watch polished?

We generally recommend having your wristwatch professionally cleaned every 2–4 years, depending on how frequently you wear your watch and your personal preferences. Over-polishing can wear down the case or bracelet over time, so less is often more—especially for collectable or vintage pieces.

Do you offer polishing for all materials?

Yes. We professionally polish watches made from:

  • Stainless Steel

  • Gold (Yellow, White, Rose)

  • Titanium

  • Platinum

We also refinish brushed, satin, and high-polish surfaces using manufacturer-grade techniques to match the original finish.

How long does our watch polishing service take?

Polishing your wristwatch usually takes 2 to 7 working days, depending on its condition and whether any extra work (like laser welding) is needed. We’ll always give you a clear timeframe once we’ve had a look at your watch — and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

Can I combine having my wristwatch polished with a full service?

Yes. Polishing can be added as an optional extra during a complete watch service. Combining both services is a great way to ensure your watch not only runs smoothly but also looks its best. While the internal movement is being cleaned and regulated, we can restore the exterior finish by carefully polishing the case and bracelet — bringing back its original lustre.

What are the benefits of having your watch professionally polished?

Your watch will naturally accumulate scratches, scuffs, and dullness from everyday wear. Our professional in-house watch cleaning service will restore the original shine and finish of your wristwatch.

Key Benefits:

  • Restores Shine: Revives the original lustre and aesthetic appeal.

  • Removes Scratches: Buffs out minor surface scratches and blemishes.

  • Extends Longevity: Reduces long-term surface wear and corrosion.

  • Enhances Resale Value: A well-maintained watch retains more of its value.

Unlike DIY solutions, professional polishing preserves the integrity of the case and bracelet of your wristwatch using specialist tools and techniques.
